Oracle Announces $8 Billion Investment in Cloud Computing and AI in Japan

Oracle Corporation Japan

Oracle Corporation Japan has revealed its plan to invest more than $8 billion over the next decade in order to meet the increasing demand for cloud computing and AI infrastructure in Japan. This investment aims to expand the footprint of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) across the country and provide support for digital sovereignty requirements.

“We are dedicated to meeting our customers and partners where they are in their cloud journey,” said Toshimitsu Misawa, President of Oracle Corporation Japan. “By growing our cloud footprint and providing a team to support sovereign operations in Japan, we are giving our customers and partners the opportunity to innovate with AI and other cloud services while supporting their regulatory and sovereignty requirements.”

To achieve these goals, Oracle plans to enhance its local customer support for its public cloud regions in Tokyo and Osaka, as well as its local operations teams for Oracle Alloy and OCI Dedicated Region. This will enable governments and businesses in Japan to confidently migrate their mission-critical workloads to the Oracle Cloud and embrace sovereign AI solutions. Oracle is uniquely positioned as the only hyperscaler capable of delivering AI and a comprehensive suite of over 100 cloud services locally, anywhere.

Oracle’s Distributed Cloud: Greater Control and Flexibility

OCI’s distributed cloud lineup offers several benefits:

  • Dedicated cloud: Customers can now run all OCI cloud services in their own data centers using OCI Dedicated Region. Additionally, partners can resell OCI cloud services and customize the experience using Oracle Alloy. Oracle also operates separate Government Clouds in the US, UK, and Australia, as well as Isolated Cloud Regions for US national security purposes. These products provide a full cloud and AI stack that customers can deploy as a Sovereign Cloud.

  • Hybrid cloud: OCI enables the delivery of key cloud services on-premises through Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer and Compute Cloud@Customer, and currently manages deployments in over 60 countries.

  • Public cloud: With 49 hyperscale public cloud regions, Oracle serves organizations of all sizes, including those requiring strict EU sovereignty controls. Check out the full list of regions here.

  • Multicloud: Oracle offers options such as Oracle Database@Azure, MySQL HeatWave on AWS, and Oracle Interconnect for Microsoft Azure, allowing customers to combine key capabilities from different clouds.
